The trailer and subsequent TV spots showcased the film’s thrills, nonstop action and comedic moments while also introducing the main characters to general audiences. The campaign won a Silver CLIO Key Art Award. The film also broke records at the box office with the largest August opening in history and the third highest grossing film of 2014. The fun, action-packed spots highlighted memorable scenes from the film and highlighted the exclusive sneak peek of Avengers: Age of Ultron. The campaign helped make the film the ninth-highest selling Blu-ray of all time.
